When I got to Isabel’s mum’s house on the morning of the wedding, it felt like the celebrations had already begun. There’s something I love about big families and Izzy’s is no exception: With 5 siblings (3 brothers and 2 sisters), big families always seem to be having a party every time they all get together! Throw in a few more bridesmaids and relatives into the mix and you have one busy wedding household – there was laughter and chatting from the bridesmaids, the smell of scrambled eggs and salmon coming from the kitchen, people running up and down the stairs of the 3-storey house and the final touches being made to the to the table plan by her brothers.
Amongst this typical chaos of any wedding household, Izzy was as calm as placid lake delegating the final tasks to her brothers and sisters whilst being preened to perfection by makeup artist Charley B Makeup. The minute she stepped into her silky David Fielden dress, there were ‘oohs’and ‘aahhs’ all round as everyone admired this most elegant and pretty bride. The final touch was a Jenny Packham head piece and a beautiful pink peony-filled bouquet by the exceptionally talented Flowers By Passion and we were ready to head to the church.
Although Isabel and Ferdinand both studied at Oxford university, it wasn’t till after university when Izzy was living in Paris that they finally got together. She recounted a very funny excerpt from her old diary in her speech that spoke of their first date and her impressions of Ferdy…the thing that struck her most was his ‘interesting’ dress sense with his top half and his bottom half looking like they were dressed for two completely different occasions! I’m not sure if Izzy has had a go at, ahem, ‘helping’ Ferdinand with his wardrobe like most of us ladies end up doing, but obviously Ferdinand’s warm and funny personality eventually won the heart of this lovely lady so much so that they’ve committed to sharing a life together.
What a wonderful wedding day it was with the champagne reception on the terrace of the pretty Wick Farm and the wedding breakfast held inside 2 of their stunning converted, double-height barns. Food by Strawberry Field Catering included beautifully arranged sharing platters served cunningly on raised, circular wooden trestles, and the sweet table was raised a bar by an elegant macaron tower by Ladurée. You’ve got a guaranteed party when the The Wedding Smashers are deejaying and what a party it was!
